Koch Nitrogen Company Challenge Grant Raises Funds for Equipment

Enid Fire Department Raises Funds For Emergency Equipment

The Enid Fire Department is pleased to announce that Koch Nitrogen Company, LLC’s challenge grant
to purchase rescue equipment for the fire department, has been matched by Oxbow Calcining, LLC-Enid
Plant.

In addition, the Enid Fire Department has received donations from Burlington Northern Santa Fe
Foundation, Continental Resources, Mid-Continent Packaging, Local Emergency Planning Commission
(LEPC), Cummins Construction, Luther Yeatman Memorial, and George L. Snider Memorial.

Koch Nitrogen’s donation, announced last September, was contingent on the Enid Fire Department
raising $8,500 in addition to Koch’s gift of $4,500. The fire department has now met that goal. The funds
raised will go to purchase equipment to help emergency crews battle fires and rescue people trapped in
structures or vehicles.

“We are very grateful to the many companies and organizations that have stepped up with support to
make our community safer. These donations will allow our department to provide enhanced emergency
rescue services to everyone in the Enid area,” said Fire Chief Philip Clover.

The Fire Department plans to purchase:

  • One combination spreader/shears with mounts, which works like a pair of scissors large enough to remove vehicle rooftops, doors, carpentry or debris that may trap accident victims.
  • Confined space cutter valve/case, to help free accident victims trapped in confined spaces.
  • Two extension hoses to allow emergency crews to respond to emergencies quickly and from a safe vantage point.

“We are pleased this initiative has been successful, and we thank all the donors who stepped forward on
this project,” said Mike Kleis, plant manager of Koch Nitrogen Co. in Enid. “Safety is a top priority for
our company, and we are happy to help the Enid Fire Department keep our community safe.”
